Hot weather next week may prompt Heat Advisory

The heat wave of early summer is expected to return next week, with highs reaching triple digits again, and heat index temperatures approaching 110° in some areas.

In a Special Weather Statement today, the National Weather Service said a ridge of high pressure building over Texas the last half of next week will send heat index readings to 105°-109°, very near Heat Advisory Criteria.

Areas in Central Texas most likely to experience those dangerous heat index temperatures include Austin metro counties, and those east of IH-35.

The National Weather Service advises area residents to have plenty of water and sports drinks on hand to help prevent dehydration. They recommend staying in air-conditioned areas or under shade if outside from noon to 6 p.m. each day next week.

The coming heat wavy may very well continue into August, as the new week 3-4 outlooks indicate drier and hotter than normal weather will continue.
