After two years of surging U.S. home prices and mortgage rates, some relief could be coming to the real estate market in 2024, according to a new report from Realtor.com. Overall, the real estate firm predicts home prices will fall 1.7% next year, though larger drops are anticipated in 21 of the country’s largest metro areas that Realtor.com analyzed in its forecast. Austin, Texas, could see the steepest decline, with a 12.2% drop expected. Three other cities in the Lone Star State could see falling home prices, including San Antonio, Dallas and Houston.

A man accused of killing six people and injuring three others doesn’t appear to have a connection to the Austin victims, a law enforcement source told KXAN Wednesday.

Austin Police identified the man Wednesday as Shane James, 34. Travis County Jail records show a man with the same name was booked into the jail at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and was charged with capital murder of multiple people.

“The version that we heard is he’s spinning on the trail, and in what he described as an ambush – this person stepped out, pointed the weapon out and fired and continued to do so. He thinks it was more than three – about five shots,” Frank Prior, owner of ATX Bikes, said.

A man was arrested on capital murder charges Tuesday in connection with several homicides as well as the shootings of an Austin Independent School District officer and an Austin police officer, the Austin Police Department said early Wednesday morning.
