AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two people are dead after a crash on Interstate 35 in south Austin involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck on Feb. 19.
On March 10, the Austin Police Department identified the two victims as Damian Allen Michael Garza, 25, and Victoria Nicole Rangel, 21.
APD said the black, 2018 Ford F-150 they were in was going at a high rate of speed, when it collided with the trailer of a Freightliner truck. Garza and Rangel were both pronounced dead on scene.
Austin-Travis County EMS said the call came in just after 8:45 p.m. At the time, APD reported ice did not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash happened on the southbound main lanes of I-35, between William Cannon Drive and Slaughter Lane.
It’s still an ongoing investigation, APD said.
