Witnesses tell Leander police 18-wheeler ran stoplight in fatal collision Tuesday

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 39-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle collision between a pickup and 18-wheeler Tuesday near the intersection of State Highway 29 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Leander.

Witnesses told police the 18-wheeler ran a red light and hit the pickup, police say. The pickup was going eastbound on Highway 29 and the 18-wheeler was going north on Ronald Reagan Boulevard, police said.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead when police arrived on the scene just before 9 a.m., they said.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, a 44-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The intersection will be closed until at least 3 p.m., police said. Please avoid the area.

It’s the second fatal collision involving an 18-wheeler in Williamson County in two days. A man died Monday after a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler on Carlos Parker Boulevard SW in Taylor.
