Passenger found dead after car crashes into tree at LCRA building

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police found a woman dead in the passenger seat of a truck Friday morning after it crashed in southeast Austin. Police say the driver and other passengers then ran away from the area.

Police identified the truck as a red 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. They say it was going very fast northbound on Montopolis Drive just after 5 a.m. when the driver lost control and hit a tree south of Ben White Boulevard.

The accident occurred by the LCRA building at 3505 Montopolis Drive. Police say after hitting the tree, the SUV came to rest against the LCRA’s loading dock.

The LCRA Public Safety Department is assisting with the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-5576.
