Patty Montagno, Vice President of Marketing for Treasury Wine Estates joined us in the studio and shared the story behind this new wine brand and how it will make a difference for women today. Three historical women who refused to let tradition, convention or boundaries restrict their beliefs and efforts to shape a more equitable world will have their stories come to life on a new wine, emBRAZEN.
Introduced on Women’s Equality Day (Aug. 26th). The trio of California wines, a Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Blend, feature portraits of trailblazing women, brought to life using augmented reality on each label through the Living Wine Labels app. http://www.livingwinelabels.com/ emBRAZEN Crafted by winemaker Olivia Teutschel, emBRAZEN honors the achievements of Josephine Baker, Nellie Bly and Celia Cruz, chosen to inspire women of today to use their voices, loudly, and blaze their own trail toward a brighter tomorrow.
Entertainer and civil rights activist Josephine Baker comes to life from the emBRAZEN Red Blend, sharing how she went from homelessness to international fame, becoming one of the first women of color to gain renown worldwide, revolutionizing the music industry by refusing to perform for segregated audiences, and even serving as a spy for the Allies during the second World War.
Nellie Blyshares her storied life from emBRAZEN’s Cabernet Sauvignon. A strong woman who laid the foundation for modern investigative reporting, she pushed the limits of womens’ role in journalism. Nellie became a female reporter without a college degree, refusing to cover “lady-like” topics such as fashion and gardening, fueling the fire for female empowerment, and even causing an international sensation by embarking on an intrepid trip around the world in 72 days.
“The Queen of Latin Music,” Celia Cruz, shines on the emBRAZEN Chardonnay label. Brazen from birth, Celia decided against a life as a teacher to chase her dream of becoming a musical star, breaking through for a celebrated career in a previously male-dominated music genre.
More than just a wine brand. It’s a call to arms, daring our audience to reclaim her narrative and rewrite history. emBRAZEN’s Take up The Torch program draws on the power of community by rallying consumers to nominate and share stories of local women who are driving change in their community. The winner of the Take up The Torch program will be announced on International Women’s Day (March 8, 2019) and will receive $25,000 to help further her cause.
