AUSTIN (KXAN) — Passion is the recipe that keeps La Patisserie busy.
“It’s all stuff I love to eat and had very fond memories of,” says owner, Soraiya Nagree.
The bakery and passion all started with a trip to the land of pastry, Paris, France. She found that on every corner delicious smells and sights would find her. Back home, she got to work creating a business from scratch that fueled her addition to sweets.
“I have a macaron a day,” she admitted. “This is my everyday.”
Education is also important to Nagree. She teaches classes for novice bakers and makes sure every person understands that there is a difference between a macaron and a macaroon.
A macaroon is a crumbly coconut biscuit/cookie. A macaron is a soft French sandwich cookie that comes in unique colors and flavors.
“People here still will walk in and we’ll be like ‘Do you want to try a macaron?’ and they’ll say ‘No no no, I don’t like those coconut things.’ And we have to explain to them that’s a macaroon not a macaron.”
It’s these interactions though that make the business all the more enjoyable for Nagree.
“I love interactions where I just get to chat with people,” commented Nagree. “And then I think one of my favorite things is that my kids have this very fond memory. One day they’ll look back and be like, ‘Man, that was pretty cool.'”
