LAWRENCE, KS (KXAN) — Texas baseball meet rock bottom.

The Longhorns faced a must-win Big 12 series against seventh place Kansas this weekend and are leaving Lawrence swept after a 10-6 loss in Sunday’s series finale.

A season that started with promise for Texas is close to ending without a spot in the Big 12 Tournament. The Longhorns are in last place in the Big 12 out of nine teams with a series at home against Oklahoma remaining.

Texas (25-25, 6-14) trails Kansas State by two games and trails Kansas by three games in the Big 12 standings. The Wildcats and Jayhawks still have six conference games remaining and could make the Longhorns’ final series obsolete with the right mix of results.

Following Tuesday’s game against Texas State, Texas will be off the schedule for a full week.
