NEW YORK CITY (KXAN) — Texas has produced the two best defensive half’s of the season during its last two games of the NIT Tournament. An efficient defense for most of the season, the Longhorns are in the NIT Championship because of those efforts.
The Longhorns held TCU to 17 points in the first half of the semifinals and under 30% shooting. The effort Tuesday at Madison Square Garden came on the heels of Texas holding Colorado to 18, first half points in the quarterfinals last week in Austin.
Senior Kerwin Roach will be playing his last game as a Longhorn after a successful yet up-and-down career with Texas. Roach missed the final five games of the regular season due to a team suspension and Texas missed the NCAA Tournament because of a 1-4 finish to the regular season.
In the NIT, Roach led the team in scoring against TCU and Xavier. Senior Dylan Osetkowski led the team in scoring against South Dakota State and Colorado.
Voice of the Longhorns Craig Way joined Chris Tavarez on More than the Score from New York City with a preview of the championship game against Lipscomb.
