Westlake aims to finish in 2016

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The second round of high school football practice is underway. Westlake started their season early with a 6:30 a.m. Monday practice. The Chaparrals lost in overtime of the 6A Division 1 State Championship to Houston North Shore.

The Chaps feature a solid senior class led by Texas quarterback commit, Sam Ehlinger and linebacker Levi Jones. According to Ehlinger, the ’15 state title game is a distant memory– at least on the first day of practice.

“You know, I think it’s really easy to put it on the back-burner considering we lost. Had we won it would probably be a little harder but we lost so we don’t want to forget it about. We want to get there and win,” Ehlinger said.

“There are certain things that we made mistakes on that kept us from ultimately finishing the game 16. We want to make sure those mistakes don’t happen again as I told our players today it’s okay to make a mistake…we’re all human. Just don’t make the same ones over and over as an individual, as a unit and ultimately as a team,” Coach Todd Dodge said.
