AUSTIN (KXAN) — The San Antonio Spurs season ended this past weekend and the final minutes to game seven are still tough to digest for Spurs fans.
San Antonio trailed Denver by four points with 28 seconds left in the game. Common basketball logic says the Spurs should’ve fouled Denver to create more possessions and perhaps create an opportunity to extend their season.
Instead, Lamarcus Aldridge, DeMar DeRozan and the rest of the Spurs sat back and let the Nuggets bleed the clock down and end the game. After the game, the Spurs players said it was so loud in the Denver arena that they weren’t able to hear coach Gregg Popovich’s directions
Even after a dud of an end to the season, the Spurs achieved about the max for the make up of the roster. Life after Kawhi Leonard left a lot of uncertainty with the Spurs franchise. A first round exit isn’t what anybody in the franchise wanted, but it does provide a framework for how the Spurs want to build for the future.
