AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin area will be well represented in the state semifinals next weekend.

The only team in KXAN’s viewing area that won’t advance to the next round of the Texas high school football playoffs after Saturday is one that played another Central Texas team. Vandegrift’s season will end after a 70-7 loss to Westlake in its 6A regional final matchup.

Here’s a breakdown of what Central Texas teams will move to the semifinals.

Westlake | 6A D2

Westlake remains undefeated and will head to the 6A state semifinals after demolishing Vandegrift Saturday in a 70-7 defeat at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium.

It could have been Westlake’s first real challenge of the season. This was Vandegrift’s second straight trip to the quarterfinals. The Vipers had won their previous three playoff games by a combined 100 points since their regular season finale loss to Round Rock.

Lake Travis | 6A D1

Lake Travis beat out San Antonio Brennan 42-17 in their state quarterfinals game Saturday. It was the team’s fifth state quarterfinals in the last six years.

Derrick Johnson had the most explosive play of the game against Brennan, a 95-yard drive after the offense was backed into their own end zone. It was the icing on the cake to seal the deal.

The Cavaliers were coming off a 35-19 win over Laredo United South, also led by senior running back Derrick Johnson who had 211 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Liberty Hill | 5A D2

The Liberty Hill Panthers are advancing to the state semifinals for the second straight year after beating previously undefeated Alamo Heights 43-40.

It was a much closer battle for the Panthers than they’ve had in the previous three rounds, which they won by at least three touchdowns each.

Next up for Liberty Hill, will be a state semifinal matchup against Crosby. The Cougars beat Texas High in their regional final matchup 14-7.

LBJ | 4A D1
