AUSTIN (KXAN) — Seven goals, one red card and countless memorable moments.
The fans at Q2 Stadium certainly got what they paid for when they watched Austin FC take on the San Jose Earthquakes, even if most of them left disappointed with the result.
The visitors were down 3-1 at half time but launched a stirring comeback in the second half to win 4-3, with Austin’s misery compounded by captain Alex Ring being sent off for the second time this season.
A wild back and forth match deserves special attention – so the Final Whistle ATX guys enlisted the help of Austin FC commentator Adrian Healey to talk about what happened at Q2 Stadium.
On his second appearance on the show, Adrian agreed with KXAN’s Nick Bannin and Harley Tamplin that the game was the “craziest” of this entertaining Austin FC inaugural season.
It all started so well for the home side as goals from Sebastian Driussi, Jon Gallagher and Ring gave ATXFC a commanding 3-1 lead at the interval.
But San Jose came out for the second half looking rejuvenated and seized control of the match, scoring three goals in less than 20 minutes, which ultimately proved crucial.
On this week’s episode of Final Whistle ATX, Adrian and the guys take a temperature check on Austin FC – looking at the promising performance of Moussa Djitte, the team once again starting slow in the second half and the passion shown by Austin players in the closing stages, especially keeper Brad Stuver.
They also discuss what’s left to play for through the rest of the season now that Austin is all but out of the playoff race. The guys end by looking ahead to Sunday’s showdown at home against LA Galaxy.
