AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police say speed was a factor in a crash that killed a woman after she slammed into water barrels on the East Ben White Boulevard frontage road.

The crash was near the US 183 service road and Montopolis around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A 911 call around 11:43 p.m. alerted police that a driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit several water barrels, before crashing into the guard rails.

According to Austin police, the woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the single vehicle crash. She has been identified as 22-year-old Holly Elizabeth Hamon.

Hamon was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Investigators are working to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-5789.
