AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Longhorns (9-4) will have a lot of interest in the final College Football Playoff rankings that will be released at 11:00 on Sunday morning.. That will determine weather Texas will play in a more prestigious New Years’s Six Bowl, or a trip 75 mile trip to San Antonio. Texas will be playing in either the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on January 1st or the Valero Alamo Bowl n San Antonio December 28th.
With UT’s 39-27 to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game, Texas now needs the Sooners to make it back to the College Football Playoff to get New Orleans. If that happens then Texas owuld get the automatic bid from the Big 12 to be their representative in the Sugar Bowl. Oklahoma entered the weekend ranked 5th in the playoff rankings behind Georgia and ahead of Ohio State.
Oklahoma figures to move into the top four with a 12 point win over a Texas that was 14th in the playoff rankings, it also means OU has beaten every team on their schedule since their only loss is to the Longhorns back in October.
Georgia (11-2) 4th and outplayed Alabama for most of the SEC Championship game before losing 35-28 so there is a possibility the committee could keep the Bulldogs in the top four but it would be the first time a two loss team made the final four.
Ohio State (12-1) was 6th behind Oklahoma and beat Northwestern 45-24 in the Big Ten Championship game and the Buckeye’s are hoping they can jump both Oklahoma and Georgia to get into the playoffs.
If either happens Texas go to the Alamo Bowl against most likely Mike Leach and Washington State.
