AUSTIN (KXAN) — The 21-year-old man who died in a crash with a garbage truck in North Austin on Wednesday has been identified by the office of the medical examiner.

Spencer Salomon Monroe, of Austin, was driving a Honda Civic when he crashed into the back of a garbage truck as it backed into the street. The truck, owned by a private company, was picking up trash at around 3:20 a.m. near the intersection of Koenig Lane and Woodrow Avenue when the crash happened.

Police say Monroe died at the scene.

Koenig Lane was closed while police investigated the crash. Austin police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call their Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at 512-974-5789.
