FORT WORTH (KXAN) — Texas shook off Friday’s ninth inning collapse in a matter of minutes during the second game of the series against TCU.
After Eric Kennedy’s single in the top of the first, Zach Zubia came to the plate with two outs and barreled his third home run of the season to left field.
Texas (17-9, 3-2) scored four runs in the second inning after loading the bases with no outs and washed out Friday’s ugly loss with a 13-1 win against the Horned Frogs.
On Friday night, Texas led TCU 2-0 going to the bottom of the ninth inning, TCU scored three runs without getting a hit for the 3-2 walkoff win.
Longhorns starting pitcher Blair Henley averted problems in the bottom of the first inning with no outs and the bases loaded. Henley forced a double play that plated TCU’s only run of the game, but got out of the inning with a strike out.
Henley settled in going six innings and earning his third win of the season.
Kennedy and Austin Todd led Texas with three RBI’s each. Kennedy cleared the bases in the fifth inning with a triple to make it 10-1.
The rubber match is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in Fort Worth. Texas will be looking to finish with a 3-2 winning week after splitting a two-game series with Arkansas.
