SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) – The popular app-based ride sharing company Uber is expanding to Hays County. Starting today, drivers can summon a ride from anywhere in San Marcos service area.
Uber is launching with support of the city’s mayor and police chief.
“The City Council and I are very pleased we were able to work with Uber officials, Police Chief Stapp, and city staff on a transportation networking company ordinance that not only keeps our residents and visitors safe, but brings innovative transportation solutions to our community, and is a model for other communities open to ridesharing companies,” said Mayor Daniel Guerrero.
Chief Stapp says the new transportation option will help reduce the number of drunk drivers.
“While I have been pleased with the transportation options currently available to our citizens, additional options for our residents and visitors is not only a great idea, but one that contributes to our goal of reducing the number of intoxicated drivers on the streets,” said Police Chief Chase Stapp.
Uber is offering San Marcos customers five free rides up to $20, July 10-17 with the promo code SANMARVELOUS.
