Two dead in crash on SH 29 in Liberty Hill

LIBERTY HILL, Texas (KXAN) — Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed two people in Liberty Hill Thursday night.

According to DPS, a 2006 Ford F-150 pulled out of a convenience store parking lot at the corner of State Highway 29 and County Road 200 around 7:30 p.m. and proceeded to hit three vehicles.

The driver of the F-150, identified as John Gonzales, 36, of Leander, then took off going the wrong-way westbound on SH 29 for a quarter of a mile before striking two Dodge pickup trucks. The driver of one of the Dodge pickup trucks, Jorge Montoya-Balderas, 29, died at the scene along with his passenger, Marcelo Montoya-Balderas, 23. Both men were from Cedar Park.

As of Friday morning, there is no information on any charges the driver might face. SH 29 was reopened to traffic as of 11:08 Thursday night.

Thursday night, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said in a tweet that a hit-and-run suspect was in custody; however, the sheriff’s office clarified that the incident was not a hit-and-run and that the driver they believe to be at fault was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

Others have been taken to the hospital, but there is an unknown total number of patients.
