Two Arrested for Cruelty to Animals After Transporting them in Back of Moving Truck

At Noon Monday, Parmer County Dispatch received a call about two trucks carrying animals being transported in moving trucks traveling into Texas from New Mexico. 

Officials say the two trucks were located and stopped by the Farwell Police Dept. and the Parmer County Sheriff’s Office.

After stopping the trucks, deputies found 38 dairy goats in one truck and 7 goats, 58 chickens, 5 turkeys, 3 Guineas, 2 Chinchillas and 4 dogs in the other.

The animals were found to be overheated and in distress with no water with the outside temperature being 86 degrees and the interior of the truck at over 95 degrees. The animals were seized and a veterinarian was contacted for their care. 

The animals were reported to being transported from Colorado to Florida.

The two drivers were arrested for cruelty to animals and are currently in the Parmer County Jail.
