TOWER OF FLAMES: Pipeline explosion in Burleson County

BURLESON COUNTY (KXAN) — A pipeline explosion early Wednesday morning in Burleson County sent flames high into the air.

No one was injured when the gas inside an Energy Transfer pipeline on County Road 132 near the Lee County border caught fire. Emergency crews worked to put out several nearby grass fires. The fire was contained as of 4:18 a.m. but officials allowed it to burn off the gas line, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office. It shut down CR 132 from County Road 130 to County Road 133.

The Giddings Times & News reported the fire was visible for at least 12 miles and started around 3:30 a.m. KXAN Meteorologist David Yeomans reports winds in the area are calm — less than 5 miles per hour.

Energy Transfer said at 10 a.m. the fire was “safely burning itself out,” and that workers would assess the site and make repairs. It is also working to determine what caused the explosion in the 12 inch gathering line that brings natural gas into two of its nearby processing plants.
