AUSTIN (KXAN) — Dell Technologies Match Play week has begun.
Tournament play opens Wednesday featuring 64 of the best golfers in the world, based off the World Golf Rankings.
Local favorite and Texas Longhorn Jordan Spieth arrived at Austin Country Club Sunday looking to get back in to form and reach the weekend for the first time under the tournament’s current format.
Spieth played several holes Monday afternoon with Xander Schaufele.
Tiger Woods will play in Austin for the first time this year, and arrived at ACC Monday afternoon for a practice round.
Woods played two weeks ago at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and is using this week as his tune up before The Masters in two weeks. Woods practiced with Justin Thomas.
As should be expected with a field this talented, the Dell Technologies Match Play boasts some big-time winners. Masters champion Bubba Watson is the defending champion. Previous world No. 1s Dustin Johnson and Jason Day are also match play champions at ACC.
The field is divided into 16 groups of four golfers for the first three days of play. Each player will go head-to-head against the other players in his group.
The winner of the group advances to the knockout rounds, which will start Saturday morning with the Round of 16. The championship begins Sunday afternoon and will air on KXAN.
