UT freshman Jaxson Hayes declares for NBA Draft, will hire agent

Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — University of Texas at Austin freshman forward Jaxson Hayes has declared for the 2019 NBA Draft and will hire an agent, according to a press release from the school Thursday.

“I have always dreamed about playing in the NBA,” Hayes said. “Now that I have the chance to realize that dream, I would like to pursue that opportunity.”

He had a stellar freshman season, earning recognition as Big 12 Freshman of the Year and earning spots on the All-Big 12 Second Team, the Big 12 All-Defensive Team, the Big 12 Newcomer Team and the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Hayes shot 72.8% from the field this season, setting a UT single-season record. The previous record holder, Dexter Pittman, shot 65.4% in 2009-10.

Notably, Hayes missed all five NIT games this year after suffering a knee injury at the end of the Kansas game in the Big 12 tournament. The Longhorns went on to win the tournament without him.
