A new poll released Wednesday shows Congressman Beto O’Rourke is nipping at Senator Ted Cruz’s heels.

Cruz, the state’s junior Republican senator, leads 47 percent to O’Rourke’s 44 percent. The Quinnipiac poll says the U.S. Senate race in Texas is “too close to call.”

According to the poll, more men are for Cruz (51 percent) than O’Rourke (40 percent). While O’Rourke, D-El Paso, is more popular with women (47 to 43 percent).

The poll found white voters back Cruz by nearly two-thirds but O’Rourke leads by 78 percent among black voters.

Cruz’s campaign announced Friday that it now has a war chest of nearly $8.2 million. O’Rourke reported collecting $6.7 million in donations through March. His campaign says it now has more than $8 million in cash on hand.
