Parking garage collapses in Irving; no one injured

IRVING, Texas (KXAN) — Vehicles are piled on top of each other after a parking garage collapsed in Irving Tuesday morning.

KXAS reports the collapse happened around 11:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of Fuller Drive.

The Irving Fire Department says initial information indicates no one was injured in the collapse. Helicopter video from the scene shows a large concrete section break away and fall below. Nearly two dozen vehicles are damaged.

Just before 5 p.m., another section of the garage collapsed.

Earlier in the day, authorities were worried about a secondary collapse.

“A secondary collapse is always our biggest fear. It looks to be stable, but we don’t know that. Any rocking that occurred in that collapse will need to be evaluated,” said Irving Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief J. Taylor.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
