HOUSTON, Texas (KXAN) — In a petition by social and environmental community site Care2, nearly 14,000 people have signed a petition to stop rap artist Cardi B from performing at the 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo due to its treatment of animals.

The petition lists several rodeo activities that are, in the author’s opinion, abusive to animals. Events include the “Calf Scramble,” in which calves are set loose and chased by children, in addition to the traditional rodeo events like bull riding.

“Cardi B is, herself, an animal lover, which is why we’re asking her to stand up for these poor animals and cancel her performance at the rodeo,” the petition reads.

The petition states that Cardi B owns 11 dogs and may be unaware of the ways animals are used in the event.

“Cardi, please be a hero for animals and drop out of this event!”, the head petitioner urged.

Cardi B’s event, to be held March 1, has already sold out and comes off the heels of her historic win as the first female rapper to receive the Best Rap Album Grammy.
