Matthew McConaughey joins his high school alma mater at Capitol


AUSTIN (KXAN) — Matthew McConaughey is becoming the go-to celebrity for all aspects of sports in Texas.

On Wednesday, McConaughey joined his state championship-winning, high school alma mater at the Texas State Capitol. The Longview Lobos, where McConaughey is a 1988 graduate, won the 2018 6A-D2 State Championship 35-34 against West Brook.

It was the school’s first state championship in football in 81 years.

He’s had a pretty good run recently with the University of Texas, watching the Longhorns beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and getting a front row seat as the ‘Minister of Culture’ for Texas basketball. McConaughey graduated with an undergraduate degreee in 1993 from Texas.

Longview’s most valuable players and head coach were honored Wednesday on the House and Senate floors for the title run with McConaughey serving as their unofficial hype man.
