AUSTIN (KXAN/ NBC) — Skeletal remains found on the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport property last week were determined to be human bones by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Contractors conducting a site survey on Jan. 14 found the remains in the northwest part of airport property near the intersection of Mustang Drive and William D. Tate Avenue, according to reports by the local NBC affiliate.

The bones have not yet been identified and officials don’t know how long they have been there. The Department of Public Safety and the medical examiner’s office are investigating.
