Blue Bell’s latest flavor promises to be a decadent Mardi Gras party

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Blue Bell’s new ice cream flavor promises to be a party.

The newest flavor to hit the shelves in Texas, “Mardi Gras King Cake Ice Cream,” is not new at all, the company announced Tuesday in a press release.

“We have been making Mardi Gras King Cake since 2012, but the flavor has mostly been sold in areas known for the celebration such as Louisiana and Alabama,” according to corporate sales manager, Carl Breed.

The company describes the flavor as being “made with a cinnamon cake flavored ice cream, tasty pastry pieces and a colorful cream cheese swirl with festive candy sprinkles.”

The decadent flavor will be available for a limited time, officials say. People often give up sweets for Lent which falls after Mardi Gras, the celebration of Fat Tuesday.

Blue Bell’s annual Christmas-inspired flavors, “Christmas Cookies, “Peppermint Bark,” and “Peppermint,” were released in October last year, even before Halloween.
