AUSTIN (KXAN) — Four people are in the hospital after a three-car pileup on Interstate 35 near New Braunfels in the early hours of Sunday, according to a press release from the New Braunfels police department.
The wreck occurred just after 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-35 South near the 2500 block, police say.
A 23-year-old New Braunfels man was speeding in a Nissan Sentra in the center lanes of I-35 when he hit a Dodge Van being driven by a 46-year-old woman from Kentucky.
The man’s car became disabled in the center lane after the collision and it was then struck by Ford F-150 being driven by a 50-year-old local.
The driver of the Nissan was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. The Kentucky woman and her two passengers, a 46-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, were taken to Resolute Health Hospital in New Braunfels with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
The northbound lanes of I-35 were shut at the Farm-to-Market 1044 exit for about three-and-a-half hours as police investigated.
