TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A 17-year-old who was rescued after being underwater at Hamilton Pool for nearly 30 minutes Friday has died.
Authorities say Anthony Dorsett, of Harker Heights, was swimming at the pool around 10:20 a.m. when park employees reported him going under the water but never resurfaced. Other swimmers at the pool jumped in to help and they were able to find the teenager approximately 25 minutes later. Once they got him out of the water, they immediately started CPR on him before emergency crews arrived.
“There was a doctor and an emergency room nurse that happened to be bystanders there on the shoreline and they did CPR on him until the first responders arrived,” said Austin-Travis County EMS District Commander Bryan Fitzpatrick.
Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputies provided assistance in the performance of CPR until Lake Travis Fire and Rescue along Austin-Travis County EMS was able to take over. Once emergency crews were able to detect a weak pulse on Dorsett, they rushed him to University Medical Center Brackenridge via STARFlight. Authorities say he died at 6:54 a.m. the following day.
