Suspicious package scare forces evacuation of Giddings school

GIDDINGS, Texas (KXAN) — Students and staff were evacuated from the Giddings Intermediate School Wednesday morning after a suspicious package scare.

The Giddings Independent School District says staff members found a package behind the kitchen area of the school when they arrived. Giddings police were called and quickly began closing off the area near the school, which is located at 2335 North Main St.

“Soon after we noticed more of the suspicious packages stacked against the back of the building near the kitchen,” wrote Asst. Superintendent Andrew Masek in a press release.

Not knowing what was inside the packages, the district and police evacuated the entire campus up to the high school and closed the road behind the campus.

Authorities later determined that a school employee placed the boxes there and there was no threat.

The campus returned to normal by 8:10 a.m.
