AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Surgeon General of the United States, Vivek Murthy, will be here in Austin talking about a issue important to every parent: their child’s health.
Joining us in the KXAN studio to talk about today’s event is Dr. Deanna Hoelscher. She’s the director of the Michael and Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living. She also works at the Austin campus of UT Health’s School of Public Health.
Dr. Hoelscher said Murthy will talk about creating resilient communities and raising healthy children before discussing ongoing public health issues in Texas.
One of the topics to be discussed is tobacco use. This week, the city of San Francisco raised it’s minimum smoking age to 21.
The event will be today at 2 p.m. in the Edgar A Smith Building inside the Blanton Museum on E MLK.
