AUSTIN (KXAN) — This summer, local students will have a unique opportunity to work with an astronaut and potentially have their experiment sent to the International Space Station.

“Go-For-Launch!” is a the three-day camp that will take place July 11-13 at St. Edward’s University in Austin. Registration is open to high school students and college freshmen and sophomores interested in math, science, leadership, and/or space.

Organizers say the camp will allow students to spend time with an astronaut and other mentors designing an experiment to fly to the International Space Station (ISS). The projects will be judged before the end of the camp, and the winner earns a chance to be built, flown to the ISS, and conducted in space!

St. Edward’s University is the only university in Texas hosting a “Go-for-Launch” camp this summer.

The deadline to register is Friday, July 1, 2016. The fee is $250 but scholarships are available for students who may need help with costs.  A limited number of scholarships are available, so if students are interested in participating but concerned about the finances, they should contact Michelle Lucas: michelle@higherorbits.org
