HOUSTON (KXAN) — Standing on the side of a packed street in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, David Fritts held his son's picture and talked to anyone who would listen.

The photo was a more recent one of Joseph smiling. Fritts would show it to shop owners along the border and people crossing from Texas.

LISTEN: Family searches for missing Marine for two years, pushes for new Texas law

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new Catalyst podcast episode explores a major update to an investigation KXAN did two years ago into missing persons in Texas.

Back then, listeners met the family of Jamie Mayberry, who disappeared in 1999, and learned about a tool that's not being used enough: the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System or NamUs. Now, a father's two-year search for his missing Marine son has led a state lawmaker to file a bill requiring police in Texas to report to the system.

Feb. 25 proclaimed as ‘Jim Spencer Day’ to honor Austin’s longtime weathercaster

AUSTIN (KXAN) — One Austin City Council member is honoring KXAN's Jim Spencer with a proclamation officially designating Feb. 25 as "Jim Spencer Day" in the City of Austin.

In January, Spencer announced his semi-retirement after 30 years as KXAN's chief weathercaster. He is the longest-serving weathercaster in the history of Austin television.
