AUSTIN (KXAN) — A documentary is debuting in Austin highlighting the fight over higher education standards at the University of Texas and schools across the country.

Joining us in the KXAN studio is the director of Starving the Beast, Steve Mims.

The goal of the documentary was to ask the question “Should higher education be a profitable commodity or a public good,” said Mims.

Quotes from the documentary:

“The de-investment of higher education was occurring across the country.”

“On one side you have bobby Jindal and a man named Grover Norquist.”

“I offer people a tax payer protection pledge. He came up with an idea to persuade politicians to sign a pledge that they said they would never vote to raise taxes. Grover Norquist is a grifter.”

“They’re designing the system to fail.”

The documentary is being shown at the Violet Crown Cinema on West 2nd Street
