Spike in flu cases at Austin hospitals

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Local doctors say they’re seeing more cases of the flu in area hospitals.

Tuesday, officials said the virus is peaking at nine Seton hospitals, including Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Since the beginning of February, the number of flu cases has increased steadily.

Doctors say everyone needs to pay attention to the symptoms with many people out of town this week.

“Spring break, vacations, SXSW, that’s the perfect setup to be exposed to new viruses and to maybe catch the flu,” said Sujit Iyer, the assistant medical director at Dell Children’s.

Doctors say the good news is that this flu season has been less severe than in recent years.

They also ask everyone to stay home if they are diagnosed with the virus.
