Sound on Sound Festival evacuated due to ‘extreme weather’

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Sound on Sound festival goers are being asked to seek shelter in cars while “extreme weather” passes over the festival grounds in Bastrop County.

At around 3 p.m. Sunday, the festival’s last day, staff tweeted that weather conditions were being monitored by a meteorologist and that people should “come prepared for rain.”

A few minutes later another tweet was posted, notifying attendees that festival grounds were being evacuated. Anyone at the festival, located in McDade, was asked to find shelter in their cars or exit toward the shuttles.

Just after 5 p.m. gates reopened allowing people to come back onto the grounds.

This is the festival’s inaugural year. Over three days it has welcomed a wide variety of artists, spanning many music genres and featured comedy stand-up acts and panel sessions.

In April, Levitation music festival was cancelled due to the threat of severe weather. The month before, South by Southwest issued an emergency message for outdoor attendees to evacuate as severe weather approached.
