CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) —  An alleged kidnapping suspect is on the loose Sunday after leading law enforcement on a chase for several hours through Caldwell County.

Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputies started pursuing a maroon Chevy Tahoe around 6:37 p.m. Saturday in Northeast Caldwell County, after receiving a call from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputies assisted both Travis County Sheriff’s deputies and Mustang Ridge Police officers in the pursuit through the Lytton Springs area.

Travis County and Mustang Ridge units had to later back off of the pursuit due to safety issues.

Caldwell County continued pursing the suspected vehicle with assistance from a Travis County helicopter through Lytton Springs when the vehicle broke down near the 6000 block of Pettytown Road.

The driver fled the scene before authorities arrived. Deputies cleared the scene around 10 p.m. after searching for the driver, who they believe was picked up by someone in another vehicle. Caldwell County officials said they had no additional details Sunday afternoon.

The victim is okay and now with family, according to police.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department says there appears to be no danger to any residents in the area where the pursuit ended.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at 512-398-6777.
