Search continues for second suspect in East Travis County shooting

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for the second person accused of shooting and killing a man in East Travis County on August 20.

Damon Danniel Fowler, 37, is wanted for murder in the shooting death of 24-year-old Kennie Crockett.

At around 2:20 p.m. Saturday, Crockett called police to the Eagle’s Landing Apartments at 8000 Decker Lane after trying to get his car back from a woman who loaned the vehicle and did had not returned it back. With the help of GPS installed by the dealership, Crockett and his friend were able to track down where the car was located.

Police were told that the woman who was driving the car also had a man in the passenger seat who had gotten in a recent altercation with Crockett earlier in the week. Crockett, who was in the apartment complex sitting in the passenger seat of his friend’s car, told dispatch that two men were approaching them.

According to the arrest affidavit, Crockett then told dispatch that he “was shot” and stopped responding to the dispatcher. That’s when Crockett’s friend drove to a nearby gas station on Loyola and Decker Lane to get help. Crockett later died at the scene.

Detectives spoke to the woman in Crockett’s car and was able to confirm that he and her boyfriend, Damon Fowler, did get into an argument a few days before the shooting happened. Fowler called his brother, Donald Perkins, saying he needed help after they found out Crockett was following them, according to the affidavit.

Police say Fowler is 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds. Travis County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
