ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — The Round Rock Express Baseball club has notified the Texas Rangers that they intend to seek a new Professional Development Contract for the 2018 season and beyond.

The Express has been the Rangers Triple-A affiliate since 2011.

The Express cannot comment on a new agreement yet, but are expected to return as the Houston Astros Triple-A affiliate. Last week the Astros informed Fresno they will seek a new Triple-A affiliate.

Coincidentally the Express has called a news conference for Thursday at the Dell Diamond where they expected to make the announcement.

The Express served as the Astros Double-A affiliate from 2000-2004 and then became their Triple-A affiliate in 2005.

The Express is owned by Ryan-Sanders group. Nolan Ryan has been an Executive Advisor for the Astros since 2014 and has an office next to the Dell Diamond. Former Express CEO Reid Ryan has been Astros President since 2013.

The team that Round Rock expects to inherit, the Fresno Grizzlies had a record of 82-57, tied for the best record in the PCL before losing in the PCL championship series to Memphis.
