AUSTIN (KXAN) — A program at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Saturday is aimed at getting children with intellectual and developmental disabilities more comfortable with flying.
The children and their families went through security screening, got boarding passes, found their gate and boarded an American Airlines jet as part of a program called Wings for All.
Saturday’s “rehearsal” was aimed at getting children comfortable before taking an actual trip.
Organizers say they plan to hold more Wings for All rehearsals at ABIA in the future.
The benefit is not solely for the children and their families; Wings for All also gives airline and security personnel the chance to interact with children with disabilities to better understand their needs while traveling.
