Police searching for man accused of stabbing ex-wife multiple times

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are searching for a man on suspicions that he stabbed his ex-wife multiple times March 7 in Travis County.

According to the affidavit, 35-year-old Rene Jimenes-Cruz is the suspect the Travis County Sheriff’s Office is searching for after they were called to a home on the 10400 block of Kirken Street around 11 p.m. Monday night. Investigators said a woman was seriously injured after being stabbed in the family violence situation. She was transported by STAR flight to UMC Brackenridge.

The woman told police she was stabbed by Cruz, her ex-husband who she has a child with. The affidavit states the woman called out to her son in Spanish “He stabbed me, take care of your sister.” When officers questioned the woman’s son, he said he saw a man running away from his mother in the driveway after she had been stabbed. Officers observed blood in the vehicle parked at the home and on the ground on the driver’s side.

“There was a helicopter and I looked across and there was fire trucks and ambulance and police cars,” said Gina Cuddeby.  She lives across the street from the victim and din’t know anything was wrong until Star Flight landed in her yard.

“I went to bed I said a whole prayer the family,” said Cuddeby.

Cruz has previously been arrested on aggravated assault charges with a deadly weapon. In the affidavit his ex-wife states that Cruz has followed her home from the gym Jan. 14 and approached her; claiming he had a pistol he was going to kill her with. Officers later found Cruz hiding inside the home where they arrested him on aggravated assault charges.

Deputies discovered Cruz had a court date pending with Travis County after the January incident and was required to wear an ankle monitor as part of his bond. According to the affidavit, police were able to find the ankle monitor discarded on the side of the road less than half a mile from his ex-wife’s house. Blood was found on the monitor by police.

The weapon and Cruz have not been located by police.

A relative said the victim is still in the hospital and family members are watching her three kids.
