Police ramp up DWI enforcement as people flock to Austin for SXSW

News

AUSTIN (KXAN) —  Austin police will be out in full force over the next two weeks, as more people head to town for big events.

A No Refusal initiative kicks off tonight for spring break and SXSW. The initiative runs from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting tonight through March 22.

If you are stopped for suspicion of drunk driving and you refuse a breathalyzer, officers can get a warrant to draw your blood on the spot.

Drinking has become synonymous with Spring Break and SXSW, which has police on high alert to keep the community safe.
