AUSTIN (KXAN) – One man took party-crashing to a dangerous level over the weekend when witnesses said he showed up uninvited and drunk to a North Austin apartment complex party, smashed the nearly empty liquor bottle he brought across one man’s head and later pulled out a knife, according to a police affidavit.
Police say a group had gathered Saturday night near picnic tables and barbecue pits for a party behind an apartment building near the intersection of East Rundberg Lane and North Plaza when Rennys Hernandez, 24, showed up at about 11 p.m.
Witnesses told police Hernandez verbally disparaged one woman’s dancing ability, which reportedly led to a fight. Hernandez then hit one man trying to break up the fight on the head with the liquor bottle, causing a laceration, according to the affidavit.
“About two minutes later, Rennys came back to the picnic area with a knife in his hand,” according to the affidavit.
Two unidentified guests then allegedly tackled Hernandez from behind, took the knife from him and hid it. Police say they later recovered the knife. During the skirmish, Hernandez suffered a cut to his own arm, according to the affidavit.
Hernandez has been charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
