AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, the pay-by-phone parking service, ParkX, launched in West Campus. The app allows users to pay for parking remotely from their devices eliminating the need for coins, cash or cards.
ParkX users will also receive text alerts on their phones when their time is about to expire. They can then move their car or add more time until they reach the posted parking time limit. Even if your parking sticker says expired but you’ve added more time through the ParkX app, parking attendants will be able to look that information up through your license plate number.
Parking zone information will be displayed at nearby pay stations and parking signs. ParkX will add a 25 cent convenience fee to each transaction.
Alex Ortiz is a student at the University of Texas and he says the app is really helpful when he’s in a time crunch.
“Just being able to focus on what I’m doing in class or getting to class and not worrying about parking I think is ideal,” says Ortiz.
The city of Austin plans on expanding the app to other parts of the city-owned parking meters starting next month.
