Package sent to Chase Bank deemed safe after evacuation

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A building in the Capital Plaza Shopping Center on Interstate 35 was evacuated by police after a suspicious package was found, Tuesday afternoon. At around 6:30 p.m., police said the package is no longer considered suspicious.

The package was supposed to go to Chase Bank, which has offices in the building. Authorities did not elaborate on what was inside the package.

Police were called to the 5400 block of the northbound I-35 service road at around 3 p.m.

A person at the scene told KXAN people have been asked to stay at least 50 feet away from the scene.
