PALESTINE, Texas (KXAN) — A grandmother and four grandchildren were killed in East Texas flooding overnight, according to NBCDFW.

Crews with the Palestine Police Department, Palestine Fire Department and Public Works employees arrived with fire trucks and dump trucks shortly after midnight to help evacuate people affected by the waters in the 100 block of Timber Drive.

Just before 4 a.m., officers received reports of a family that was missing from the neighborhood affected by the floods.

A police statement says that while officers searched for the family, a resident said he discovered “what appeared to be the body of an adult female and two additional children who had appeared to have been swept away,” by the fast-moving water.

The identities of the victims, which included a 64-year-old woman and four grandchildren, aged 9, 8, 7 and 6, have not been released. The Red Cross is helping other families displaced by the flood waters in the neighborhood.
