AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Dylan Osetkowski had a career-high 26 points as Texas defeated South Dakota State 79-73 in the NIT first round on Tuesday night.

Osetkowski shot 4 for 6 from beyond the arc on a night when the Longhorns took more three-point shots than two-point shots.

Texas finished 15-of-38 from three and 10-of-18 on two-point attempts.

The Longhorns opened the game trying to prove a point from outside, connecting on their first five three-point attempts for a 19-0 lead on the Jackrabbits.

South Dakota State scratched away at the deficit and trailed 43-35 at halftime. In the second half, David Jenkins gave the Jackrabbits its first lead of the game with 8:39 to go. SDSU led 67-64 before Courtney Ramey’s three-point shot tied it with 7:47 remaining.

Texas never trailed again, but needed free throws in the final minute to ice away South Dakota State’s season.

Ramey had 13 points for Texas (17-16). Kerwin Roach II added 12 points.

Mike Daum had 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Jackrabbits (24-9). David Jenkins Jr. added 19 points. Skyler Flatten had 14 points and six rebounds.
