North Austin apartment tenants fight eviction

AUSTIN (KXAN) — People are taking matters in their own hands after they were evicted from a local apartment complex.

They’re holding protests Wednesday after 35 families were kicked out of the Cross Creek Apartments on Rutland Drive in North Austin

That complex has been sued by the city of Austin for code violations.

Inspectors say they found renters without hot water. Many say they’re now being evicted illegally.

“These people just want to throw us out to the streets and I really think that that’s wrong, you know i don’t have nowhere to go,” tenant Kisha Williams said. “I don’t and I just want justice behind this because this is not right.”

The owner of the complex says they are working with the city of Austin to relocate the families who have been pushed out.

Cross Creek owner, Royce Mulholland, said: “We are in active negotiations with the city to settle the lawsuit. We will be in court tomorrow. We are encouraged, working well with the city attorneys, and we think we are close to an agreement.”
